Minnesota Coalition Receives National Achievement in Environmental Justice Award

U.S. EPA Region 5 has recognized a St. Paul, Minnesota-based coalition for its efforts to address environmental justice. EPA honored Transportation Equity/Stops for Us Coalition with a National Achievement in Environmental Justice award.

The Stops for Us Coalition formed a broad-based partnership and helped secure the construction of three new light rail transit stations. The new stations will provide residents in the city’s Central Corridor along University Avenue between Snelling Avenue and Rice Street with access to housing, jobs, education and the many amenities of the Twin Cities metropolitan region.

The goal of EPA’s National Achievements in Environmental Justice Awards is to encourage communities to form partnerships to work together to solve environmental problems, to identify and take actions that directly benefit the community residents, and to document successes that can be used in other communities to address significant environmental justice concerns.
