Annual Wetland Monitoring Report Requirements In Minnesota

Wetland mitigation projects in Minnesota will sometimes require the construction of new wetlands to compensate for alteration or elimination of existing wetland basins. If a permit for the wetland mitigation project is required by the Army Corps of Engineers, Minnesota DNR, watershed district or other governmental unit, the new wetland will after require annual evaluation and preparation of an Annual Wetland Monitoring Report.

These Wetland Monitoring Reports will include a technical assessment of the condition of the wetland and compare it to the intended condition established as part of the wetland permit. If the wetland replacement does not make acceptable progress towards the intended wetland qualities, then corrective action may be required. The required content of the Annual Wetland Monitoring Report will depend on the wetland permitting agency. For example, Army Corps of Engineers requirements for Annual Wetland Monitoring Reports are contained in Regulatory Guidance Letter (RGL) No. 08-03.
